the GazettE 11th Anniversary | DIVISION Final MELT at Saitama Super Arena

Saitama Super Arena was packed hours before the doors opened for the GazettE's 11th Anniversary/DIVISION tour final.

The live served as a finale for the country-wide DIVISION tour, which began in 2012 and was finally concluding on March 10, 2013--also the GazettE's anniversary.

Some fans had clearly been there all day, waiting in anticipation for a tour that had spanned over the course of a year.

The concert was divided into 3 major sections.

There was the main concert, the first encore and then the final encore.

The main concert was similar, if not exactly the same, as the rest of the DIVISION tour with little to no change to the visuals and setlist.

The first portion of the setlist included:

[Diplosomia]
[XI]
DERANGEMENT
GABRIEL ON THE GALLOWS
VENOMOUS SPIDER'S WEB
VORTEX
CLEVER MONKEY
THE SUICIDE CIRCUS
DRIPPING INSANITY
余韻
影踏み
籠の蛹
[Depth]

ヘドロ
VERMIN
SLUDGY CULT
HEADACHE MAN
ATTITUDE
REQUIRED MALFUNCTION
[Melt]

For those who had a chance to attend previous DIVISION lives though, the familiarity ended with a bang--literally.

After the band exited the stage, the audience began to buzz.

A clear sharp explosion sliced through the chatter and a startled silence fell over the arena.

The stage, which had darkened when the band disappeared, suddenly blazed to life in fire pots that appeared where Kai's drumset had been. The audience screamed in excitement as sparks burst over the stage and several more fire crackers exploded with loud bangs.

The pyrotechnics, dazzling as they were, proved tricky to control as a rogue firecracker brought two light fixtures swinging down from the ceiling. Both of them literally hung by a thread and swung precariously over the stage, just above the amplifiers and elaborate equipment set up.

Despite the potential danger, the accident only served to rile up the audience even further as staff members rushed to bring the fixtures down safely.

Not long after, Reita and Kai emerged to open the first encore, which included the following songs:

Ride with the ROCKERS
赤いワンピース
Psychedelic Heroin
Filth in the Beauty
COCKROACH
LINDA~candy dive pinky heaven~

During the encores, the mobile band members dashed out into the side wings. While taking care of the right audience, Reita simply sat with one leg over the rail of the right stage, playing leisurely.

Ruki, at one point, seemed to disappear backstage but, surprisingly, continued to sing as the band played on. He soon emerged out from the left wing of the stage, walking directly in the audience walkway and--unsurprisingly--was nearly mobbed as fans rushed from the upper levels to get a chance to touch him.

Surrounded by a barrier of staff members, Ruki continued to sing to and from the stage.

Fans on the right wing of the stage waited in anticipation for their turn but Ruki first took a water bottle from in front of the drums and tossed the cap as he took the bottle with him to the right wing. Ruki, with no change in expression, pantomimed an ejaculation into the audience with his water bottle before turning and emerging into the audience walkway to walk into the audience.

Meanwhile, Aoi, Uruha, Reita and Kai were occupying the main stage. Aoi and Uruha both hopped onto Ruki's stand and played together in what seemed like a conversation between guitars and Reita did his customary swings with his bass.

Throughout all this, Kai never skipped a beat, even when exchanging drum sticks by hurling them into the back of the stage and having another two in his hand the next instant.

Ruki used the MC to ask the audience to raise their voices. He called for the back to reply and, while they replied enthusiastically, Ruki apparently found it unsatisfactory.

"I'm wondering if it's a bit quiet because you all have pollen allergies," Ruki said with a grin.

The first encore ended and the audience was quickly back on its feet, calling for a second encore.

It wasn't long before the band emerged again for the second, and final, encore, delighting fans with silver streamers that burst from the stage and two very nostalgic songs:

関東土下座組合
BEST FRIENDS

Fans screamed in delight as the songs pulsated through the entire arena.

After Best Friends, the band put down their instruments and, surprisingly, Reita and Aoi stayed on stage. All five members gathered and stood at the center of the stage as Aoi playfully tussled with Reita, punching and kicking him before the bassist pulled away and stood beside Ruki on stage.

"Since it's our anniversary, we should all say one thing we really remember," Ruki said. He eyed his band members, as if deciding who would be the first to suffer through an MC, before thrusting the microphone at Uruha, "Here."

Uruha, Kai and Reita all thanked the audience for their support and their desire to move forward with the fans' continued support.

Aoi's MC opened with Reita giving him a vengeful kick to the backside, leaving Aoi holding his "injury." Aoi gave a relatively long and rambling MC and, as the audience moved to clap and cheer after a comment, Aoi shook his head, "Wait," he commanded. "Wait, wait a sec, okay?" The audience laughed anyways but fell silent to let him finish.

"Well, it's time," Ruki paused and glanced down at his bracelet like it was a watch before looking out at the audience again. The audience tittered and he smiled sheepishly, "It's time for us to go....to the sky."

The end of the sentence earned a brief silence and another collective laugh from the audience. Ruki continued for a little longer before getting to the purpose of his joke.

"Shall we take you with us?" Ruki asked. "To the sky?" The audience responded enthusiastically with cheers. "Everybody, grab the hand of someone around you," Ruki instructed. On stage, Reita grabbed Ruki's free hand with Aoi on the other side. Kai also moved to take Ruki's hand but paused with his infamously awkward smile as he realized Ruki had a microphone in the other hand. He took a firm hold of Ruki's upper sleeve instead while holding Uruha's hand.

"Let's go together. To the sky. Are you ready? We're gonna go. We're gonna go. We're really gonna go--all the way into space, okay. Ready? We're really going."

Ruki decided that the audience perhaps had enough of his teasing and began the countdown,

"Ready--set--GO!"

The band and audience leaped together and, in one tense simultaneous moment, everybody let out a cheer as they followed the band for the brief moment up towards the sky--before landing as one back in the Arena.

The band left the stage after a final goodbye and thank you, leaving the audience to file out of the arena.

As the audience left the arena, fans got to see all the support the GazettE had--not only from fellow fans but also from industry friends. Flowers lined the exit of the arena from various celebrities, congratulating the band on their anniversary.

Congratulations on 11 years GazettE!

I really liked that they played CLEVER MONKEY. That's one of my all time favorite songs by them. I would have liked it if they played TAION because that song is too beautiful to only play a few times during their career. I miss hearing it live. (Facebook name is Rikkusu Mikki and I think I was the first to share, so hopefully you catch it!)

I'd also really want to hear Taion! It's definitely one of the heart wrenching songs that really touches you!

Thanks for commenting! :)

I loved the fact that they played VORTEX since that's one of my favorites and it's an amazing song! I noticed that they didn't play Miseinen like they usually do. It would have been nice if they played it like they used to, and I hope they never stop playing that song. It's such a beautiful and touching song, not to mention it's a very important song to the band and their journey.

Hello! ^^/ Zen desu!

The song I would have liked to have seen would be Kage Fumi, its such a sad and sweet song I love it so much, not to mention Rukis performance of it during jmello really moved me.. ;-; I wanted to cry... I would have loved to have seen the live! I was actually planning to go for it, I bought my ticket late October of last year! got row16! I was so excited! However due to issues at home I endded up not going at all :( had to look for a place to live >.< I was so determined to go to Japan that i decided by December of this year I WILL SEE THEM! :D

Vortex is definitely of those songs better live!
But you're right! I totally didn't notice that Miseinen wasn't on the setlist--but we got kantou dogeza and best friends instead, a good trade off, I think :)

Thanks for commenting!

^^d ganbate minnasan!

I'm a big fan of Required Malfunction, like everyone else, i guess XD it's just such a great song, you know? i can listen to it on repeat for hours XD but...in this live my eternal love goes to Best Friends I was hoping they would play it at Tokyo Dome, so when i was there, i was really excited....but they didnt and i died. then i thought "well, maybe for decade" and still they didnt!!!! so it was a huge surprise they chose to play it for MELT, i was not expecting that. I'm sad they didnt play miseinen, i agree with akira wu, it's a very important part of a tour final, it's almost like skipping kantou or linda :(

ah and....I'd give everything i own to listen to Regret live again...it's been so long since the last time they performed it at a live. I love it because it was the first song i heard from them and the one that made me fall for them n.n

ah, sorry for the long rant! XD

thanks for the report, btw!!! m(_ _)m

I would have really liked to have listen to Dripping Insanity, that song has always stood out to me when I bought the Division Album and it would have been awesome to hear that song live! But the song I would absolutely LOVE to see/listen to in person is Best Friends. It has such a happy tone to it and it's one of my favorites!

I have wanted to see GazettE live for 11 years now. I even went to Japan to see them during the dim era but had no luck getting tickets。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。I heard from many fans that MELT was one of their best concerts!!! I heard that they we're really playful and fun in this concert. I heard AoixUruha we're really flirty with each other, Ruki grabbed Reitas crotch I wish I couls have seen his reaction(^。^) I wanted to see them play REQUIRED MALFUNCTION and BEST FRIENDS live. I really can't say much except that I really wish I was there and that I hope one day I can actually see GazettE live!!!ヽ(^o^)丿

i would like to hear gabriel on the gallows~~
it's really another masterpiece from gazette that i'm super addicted to it..XD
i really to see that song live in front of me if i ever got the change to~ gazette has always rock my world ever since i was 8 years old girl and i'm glad i'm still a sixthguns until now~

I would've liked to Filth in the Beauty, it's really catchy.

But the song I really want to see live is Reila, all time favorite song. It's just so damn beautiful.

And I would've loved to see all the fire, because it just so awesome~

http://www.facebook.com/getsuandhoshi

I'm glad that they choose to play Best Friends on the live, it was a nice surprise to hear.
Though, one song I would wanted them to play at a live is Baretta. Well, you could say that it's my favourite song from them. And to hear it live, that would only be more awesome, cause that song is so beautiful and I like the lyrics to it. Almost too much, that I plan to get the chorus as a tattoo on myself this autumn, haha.

I've never been to any of their lives before, but I'd really like to hear [籠の蛹] live. I haven't looked up the lyrics yet, but I fell in love with that song instantly. I don't know the meaning but there's just something that pulls me in. Out of all my favorite GazettE songs, KAGO NO SANAGI is my absolute favorite~

I'd love to hear Vermin. I has stunning rythm and melody line. The song is so powerfull, so I can feel a huge amount of enegery while litnening to it. During show the energy would increase much more.

The song I would like to have heard is 'Break Me'. Have they ever played this live? Well, I've never seen it, and I really would like to. It just suddenly popped up one day on my iPod, and I was going, 'Why have I not heard this song before??' It's one of those songs that doesn't actually sound like the GazettE, but still is (another example for this, in my opinion, is 'In The Middle of Chaos', which I first heard after watching DECADE, and really loved after).

Another song I'd have liked to see is PLEDGE. They've only played it once, I believe, during The Nameless Liberty Tour Final. ALSO! Wouldn't it be great to see one of them, RUKI maybe?, play the piano for this? *w* I'm sure one of them knows how to play the piano. It would be such a marvellous sight.

I really want to see Anita no tame no kono inochi. It was the first song I loved and they rarely seem to perform it live.
I'd also love to see without a trace or naraku as they're two of my favourites.

Woh! It's a very nice report, I'd have loved be there like last year, but... well, I will have to wait till DVD in June. Anyway, thank you so much for your work and for share this with all fans :)

I'd have like listen in live Sugar Pain, because I'm in love of that performance since RCE, was pretty amazing and is one of my favorite songs. Also I would have like if they played more old songs, I think those songs are very special to all fans.

GoodTime! *o* amazing report!!! really I excited with this :3 ,maybe It would be wrong to say "all songs"...I had made just by being present ( really, I live far away),but I would love to hear "別れ道" simply because here's where this whole gazelove officially started, but I do!? that is not in this set list -_- How silly of me..."VENOMOUS SPIDER'S WEB" I can not give a " because " it just that had really crazy listening to this song live....

or better "LINDA candydive Pinky Heaven ~ ~" because it is "a chorus of strength" remember for me what is really important and apart from this to achieve our goals ...life itself...

I would have liked to see a "solo" of each member, because you could see his "magic mark" on the stage ...how to say ... your angel? I think that would be the word probably cry to see such a thing so amazing!!!.... I forgot, thanks for do something so! ;)...

Thank you so much for this amazing live report! Hearing about the live will never get old - it sounds so intense and amazing! Especially with the stage pretty much exploding (so very ROCK :D)!

I would've really loved to hear REQUIRED MALFUNCTION from the setlist. From the very first second I heard it on the album, I was absolutely, utterly, and completely smitten. It felt like a throwback to their earlier work; a certain sound that I feel like we hadn't heard in awhile. the GazettE's notorious switching of tone and style within one song is something I feel hasn't been truly done in quite a while and to hear so many style changes in a span of 4 minutes was amazing. And it's just so fun to listen to, trying to catch all the subtleties and little add-ins in the guitars and bass, so I can't wait to hear that song live on the DVD!

A song I would've loved for them to have played is Guren. I absolutely adore that song and I feel like it hasn't been played for a finale in a long time, so it would be amazing to hear it played raw and live again :)

I want to hear Filth in the Beauty Live because that's my first GazettE song that got me into the band. I love the middle part where everyone starts to headbang. It feels like I'm with them when I join in~ I would've wanted to see Chijou, it's one of my favourite songs! The song's calming but mixed with rock at the same time and Reita's bass play is amazing xD I want to see Guren too because that's their first song I cried to. >_< Ruki has such talent with writing the lyrics. <3

The songs that I would like to hear from this set lists are 余韻 and REQUIRED MALFUNCTION.
余韻 is so emotional to me. I want to see what it would be onstage. Since it doesn't have any PV, I want to see the 'interpretation' about the song visually. >_<
On the contrary, I think REQUIRED MALFUNCTION is so 'wild' in its own way. I really want to how the GazeBoys drive all everyone in the venue into a mad wave! lol
And thank you very much for sharing THIS live 'cause it sounds so great! (;^;)

Thanks for sharing and for translating the MC moments. I wanted to go to this year's concert to celebrate Kai's 10 years with the band but as I am still paying off last years trip it was impossible.

I would like to hear BEST FRIENDS :) This song is very memorable for me and it reminds me of the bond between the GazettE members.

Nothing to say~ The feeling of going there is as strong as going to the sky with them. I wish I can join them too. =)

If I had to choose one song from this set I would choose... 余韻

Remember the Urge.
I feel it has that ballet-rock to it. Like its balanced. Remember the Urge is like reminding one about their want to do something. Have something. A goal, a person or a wish. Although it isn't a song mostly played and fans say the PV is boring and gray, I like how it looks original and not trying to impress you too much. I wished they play this song in every of their concerts.

Thank you for writing this.^^

And now...hmm. I would have really liked to listen to THE SUICIDE CIRCUS, because that was the song, which made me listen to that gorgeous band again. It is so beautiful and makes me feel a bit better whenever I listen to it.
I'd also loved to listen to 影踏み and DRIPPING INSANITY. The lyrics are so wonderful and I'd really like to feel the emotions of the GazettE when they play those songs.
Unfortunately I couldn't join any of their concerts, but I'd love to go and have fun, meet other Sixth Guns and see them live. They are so encouraging. ^^ ♡
